This thematic issue of Social Inclusion focuses on universities as inclusive organisations in a variety different countries and higher education (HE) systems. It explores how these institutions aim, succeed or fail to become organisations, what policies processes help achieve goals academics students can agents change through teaching research cultures. The contributions this point the multi‐level well multi‐faceted challenges characteristics inclusion HE general particular, based both student academic points view. They offer innovative conceptual ways thinking measuring inclusion.
